Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish (Luhyny)

The earliest written reference to Luhyny, a small town in the Zhytomyr region with about 4,000 residents today, dates to 1606.

Historically, local Roman Catholics had no church of their own. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the legalisation and restoration of the universal Church’s structures in Ukraine, the faithful built a new masonry church in Luhyny. Bishop Jan Purwiński blessed it in the same year, 1991, as an inscription on its façade records. The church is thus as old as our country’s independence.
