St Wenceslaus Parish (Zhytomyr)

About the parish

1907 — registration of St Wenceslaus Church. The land for the church was donated by the local landowner Andrii Arshenevskyi. Construction began.

13.08.1948 — by decision of Zhytomyr’s executive committee, the Roman Catholic community of the Kroshnia church was deregistered. The church was converted into a community hall and later a library.

1957 — the Kroshnia consumer cooperative was established in the church’s auxiliary buildings.

1960 — the Zhytomyr food-processing plant was established, with sausage production in the central part of the church.

09.10.2001 — registration of St Wenceslaus Roman Catholic Parish in Kroshnia was restored.

21.03.2002 — the church building was solemnly returned to the Roman Catholic faithful in the presence of the head of the Zhytomyr Regional State Administration and other officials, the parish priest Monsignor Ludwik Kamilewski, and several hundred faithful.

August 2002 — Holy Mass began to be celebrated inside the church.
