About the parish
Built in 1799–1808 at the expense of Salomiia Soltykova, wife of the local starosta. In 1816, a Catholic seminary was also built beside the church, funded by the same Soltykov family.
The church was dedicated on 6 August 1808, the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord.
In 1839, the russian authorities closed the seminary. Its remains were blown up around 1950.
The church itself functioned until 1917, and a church was opened here during the German occupation. Services continued until 1960.
In 1967, the Catholic church was converted into a bus station.
In 1995, the religious community was officially registered again. Years of struggle to return the church building to the faithful then began.
In 2001, a court ruling returned the building’s second floor to the community, followed by further court cases over the rest…
