About the parish
A parish was established in Boryspil in 1997. Initially, services in a temporary chapel on the church construction site were celebrated by Fr Wiesław Stępień, a diocesan priest from Kyiv. In November 2000, the Conventual Franciscans took over the parish and settled in Boryspil.
On 22 November, Jan Purwiński, Bishop of Kyiv-Zhytomyr, issued a decree entrusting Transfiguration of the Lord Parish in Boryspil to the Order of Friars Minor Conventual. He appointed Fr Tomasz as pastor and Fr Oleksandr as assistant priest. The first Holy Mass in the newly built church of the church and monastery complex was celebrated on 04.08.2002, and the church was dedicated two days later.
On 06.08.2007, Bishop Vitalii Skomarovskyi consecrated the church’s altar.
On 3 May 2009, St Bonaventure Friary was officially established in Boryspil. Fr Edward Kawa, the future bishop, served here as assistant priest in 2003–2005 and as superior of the friary and a parish pastor in 2009–2010 and 2012–2016.
