About the parish
The village, formerly known as Buda Kaitanivka, was founded in 1751. Ethnic Poles made up a substantial proportion of its small population.
From at least 1795, local Latin-rite Catholics belonged to the Parish of the Finding of the Holy Cross in Chudniv. In 1911, they became part of the newly established Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Romaniv. They had no parish church of their own.
From 1991, the faithful of Tovshcha attended services celebrated in their homes by Fr Jerzy Skwierczyński. In 1998, a former bathhouse was purchased for the Catholic community and converted into a church. On 8 August 2000, Jan Purwiński, Bishop of Kyiv-Zhytomyr, blessed the church under the title of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
The spiritual needs of Tovshcha’s Catholics are served by the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus from Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Bykivka.
