About the parish
The village of Hulianka in the Zhytomyr region is believed to have been founded in 1873, although it appears on a map dating from 1826–1840 under the name “Bud. Hulianka”. According to records from 1906, it had 545 residents; today, it has about 1,100.
During the russian imperial period, Hulianka’s Latin-rite Catholics had no church of their own. Only after the fall of Soviet rule were they able to form a community and establish a chapel in an ordinary village house. It was blessed on 13 July 2008 by the then Bishop of Kyiv-Zhytomyr, Jan Purwiński. The parish was established and its first pastor appointed at the same time.
Between 2014 and 2018, under the leadership of the parish priest, Fr Vitalii Potemkovskyi, a permanent masonry Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help was built beside the chapel. It is served by diocesan priests.
