Infant Jesus Parish (Irshansk)

About the parish

Irshansk is an urban-type settlement in the Zhytomyr region, founded during the Soviet period as a workers’ settlement serving a mining and processing plant and a construction and installation directorate. It now has about 7,000 residents.

For obvious reasons, Irshansk had never had a Roman Catholic church of its own. As the settlement grew, however, a Catholic community emerged. It was officially registered in November 1996, and construction of a new masonry church began later. At first, parishioners used only the lower level while building work continued upstairs. On 24 August 2019, Ukraine’s Independence Day, the first Holy Mass was celebrated in the upper part of the church, which is dedicated to the Infant Jesus.
