Blessed Honorat Koźmiński Parish (Korosten)

Korosten, historically known as Iskorosten, was founded around 705 and was the capital of the Drevlians’ tribal union. In 1589, the town was granted Magdeburg rights.

Despite its long and distinguished history, however, Korosten had no Catholic church. The parish dates from 1988, while the present masonry church, dedicated to Blessed Honorat Koźmiński, was built only in the 1990s, after the fall of Soviet rule.

Until the end of his life, Monsignor Amvrozii Mitskevych lived and served as pastor in the local parish. He was known for his devoted ministry during the years of Soviet repression and the Catholic Church’s underground existence.
